Our Cows
The farm hosts a herd of about 80 suckler cows, so called because the calves are kept with their mothers to suckle their milk until about 8 months of age. This produces a very strong and healthy calf. They are then weaned, housed over winter and fed silage until they are turned out into the fields the following spring. After summer at grass they are housed for second winter, when they `finish` and are ready. Our pedigree Aberdeen Angus are kept for the pub. Aberdeen Angus is famed for its marbling fat which gives it a wonderful tenderised flavour; enhanced by air drying for 28 days. The combination of a renowned breed and rearing on extensive conservation pastures provides us with beef that is second to none. |
Our Sheep
Or flock are grazed extensively and finished slowly. They have exceptional eating quality – juicy, tender and a wonderful flavour. Boxed lamb packs are available to order. Our Fruit and Vegetables With ancient and replanted traditional orchards the farm provides apples, pears, plums, mulberrys, quince, and figs. With the recent revival of the Fremantle family’s walled garden, our gardeners produce a range of herbs and speciality soft fruit and vegetables for the Betsey Wynne. Our estate team are dedicated in producing quality, home grown and locally produced food. So what else can we supply from our farm? “Betsey’s Best” Swanbourne honey, duck quail and chicken eggs from our local villagers; we mill our own flour, and there are the flowers at your table. Alongside this we also make delicious Swanbourne Estate Gin using our very own fruit. |
